About Me

Who Am I?

Hello, my name is Nathan Aris, I am a 23 year old Caucasian male who lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I like science. I don't have a Parkour nickname yet so when you meet me you will just have to call me Nathan, Nate, Nate-dogg, or Boy Scout, as I have been called all of those at one point in the past. I am a nerd, geek, hiker, camper, skiier, Traceur, and Engineer in the making.

What is this blog going to be about?

This blog is going to be mainly about my life as a Traceur, meaning someone who practices Parkour and Freerunning, but I will also talk about my life as an Engineer in the making, things I think are cool, and a little bit of life in general.

My Life

My Past

I would like to say that my past was nothing but awesome, but I can’t, there are many things that I wish I had done differently, but nothing that I would go back and change because all of the things I have done, good and bad have shaped me into who I am today.

In the past 23 years of my life I have done many things, and many of them I still do to this day. Things like skiing, hiking, camping, Parkour, Rock Climbing, playing geeky regular board games, and being an all-around nerd have stuck with me till now. Things like Karate, organized Basketball, organized Baseball, cross country running, being a hardcore gamer who never goes outside, and not knowing how to talk to people haven't stuck with me. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy a good game with friends, but I have moved away from just playing alone to making the time that I spend gaming, time that I spend with friends.

My Present

Right now I am pretty sure that I am in just about the best shape of my life, I don’t have massive muscles or anything, but I am both physically fit and eating well. I am working at a Process Automation company in Calgary, Alberta as one of their interns, and will be doing that until the end of this July, I do Parkour twice a week on Tuesday’s and Saturday’s at the Breathe Parkour Space, and I have graduated from SAIT Polytechnic in Chemical Engineering Technology which was a wonderful experience and many things were learned that will profit my throughout my entire life.

My Future

I am currently planning on taking my Bachelor’s Chemical Engineering at the University of Alberta starting in September of 2014, and I already have a Diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology from SAIT Polytechnic under my belt, so my future looks bright right now. I have a small group of friends who are always happy to see me, and I would take that over a large group of friends that I barely see, and are only occasionally happy to see me.

The End

Well that is all that I have for right now. Now you know some stuff about me, and hopefully you enjoyed reading. I will have more coming up, with further insights into Parkour, Engineering and my life which I hope you will enjoy also.

I will leave you with an inspirational quote.

“Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered you will never grow.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

You can get an artistic interpretation of this quote by providing Zen Pencils with your email here and you will also get updates when he posts new quotes. This is a most awesome website that has awesome quotes but great people, all illustrated by the talented Gavin Aung Than. I like reading the different quotes that he chooses to illustrate and really enjoy seeing the story that it adds to the quote as well.

That is all for now, later.
– Nathan Aris
